Find info about the Northampton College depth chart, registering in a technical degree program to develop job skills, and taking free practice tests online. Which college degrees will give you the best chances of finding employment after graduation? Some students select a major because it offers practical training that will be valuable in the workplace. Other students choose their major simply because they enjoy the subject material. If you're having trouble gaining admission to a selective school, consider applying to a less-competitive department, and then switching after your freshman year. The most popular college major is business administration, split evenly between men and women. On the other hand, men make up the vast majority of computer science and engineering majors. For women, the fields of education, English and liberal arts dominate the list.

To prepare for graduate school, students can enhance their regular schedule by adding online classes. Students can participate in group discussions with a live professor via Google Hangouts, a free video-conferencing application that you can access via gmail. If you so choose, online education gives you the opportunity to take difficult courses that won't show up on your transcript. Alternatively, you may be able to complete online credits for a grade. Advanced Placement exams (AP Exams) are offered in a variety of subjects, offering college credit for classes that you have taken. Test yourself with free practice exams, before visiting the College Board website to register to take your actual AP Tests. If you earn a score of 3 or higher on an AP Exam, you may be granted advanced placement in college.

Online Courses - MOOCs

Northampton College depth chartThe best college for a student is not necessarily the highest ranking school in the Forbes or US News listings, but the college that offers a student rewarding career chances. If you remain true to your career interests, not just going after salary, your overall job earnings will increase as you gain experience. However, if your focus is more on salary alone, there's a higher risk that you'll suffer early signs of burnout, and be forced to change careers later on.

Technical training programs are a low-cost alternative to attending a regular four-year college, and still you may earn good money as a highly-skilled, technical specialist. By taking some of your required degree courses online, you may be able to graduate earlier, thus saving money on tuition. If you're currently employed, you can take online courses in your spare time to advance your career. Massive Open Online Courses are known as MOOCs, utilizing cloud-based software, interactive platforms such as Blackboard, and mobile apps.

An online degree may be just as marketable as a college degree that was earned on campus. Udemy online learning is a new startup with backing from the founders of Groupon. Similarly, Khan Academy now offers over 4,000 micro-lectures served through YouTube. Coursera, a competing software platform, has millions of enrolled students from around the world. Recently, MIT announced that it's open courseware platform will be available to students and instructors at no cost.

Athletic Training Exercises

In the weight room, don't be fooled by players who are always pumping iron. It takes a lot more than muscle mass to succeed in college sports. Players are becoming more agile, and developing superior game skills every year. It's true that you need to develop muscle strength, but your primary focus in weight training should be to use the equipment to help you develop along a natural range of motion. If your school doesn't have advanced machinery in the weight room, you're better off using free weights, and pulley systems that allow you to copy the same motions that you make when playing.

Track stars have revealed the secret to developing endurance and increasing running speed. Most athletes simply run out of breath long before they need to stop running, because they aren't able to get the oxygen into their muscles fast enough. As lactic acid builds up, muscle fatigue sets in and untrained players think they've reached a natural limit. Track stars, and well-coached basketball teams, on the other hand, train by sprinting short distances over and over. It's not fun, but it works. After a few months of training, the lungs begin to process oxygen more efficiently, and players find that they can run long distances non-stop, or break out a sprint for a longer period of time.

Business & Medical Job Listings

Although most jobs which pay six-figure salaries require a college degree, technical fields offer high salaries based more on ability than which school you graduated from. Students will impress future bosses more with an impressive portfolio than with an advanced degree, so practice your skills as a consultant for local companies. Candidates with prior industry experience are preferred by interviewers, so you resume must show a clear pattern of success over time, based on numeric results and personal achievements.

In order to become an RN (Registered Nurse), a bachelors degree in nursing is recommended. RN's command a greater salary, and are responsible for an enlarged scope of practice over LPNs and CNAs. Students will receive classroom instruction and clinical training in a hospital setting. A 4-year BSN program allows students to further specialize in the areas of pediatrics, geriatrics and mental health. After completing your nursing education, you must be licensed by the state in which you'll be practicing, given that state boards of nursing each have specific certification requirements.
